Academic Project: Group
Our team partnered with Procter & Gamble to redesign on-body bug repellent to create a comfortable and delightful experience for consumers.
We began this project by interviewing consumers in their homes. I led two 60 minute interviews and then took notes while observing an additional two interviews. Our goal from these interviews was to try to better understand how consumers felt about the current bug repellent options on the market. We wrote discussion guides that helped us to stay on track during the interviews and gain as much useful information as possible.
Based on research conducted interviewing consumers in their homes, we synthesized our findings in order to better understand the problems with the current bug repellents on the market
After interviewing 8 consumers in their homes and analyzing the information gained from our research, we invited the consumers to a central location in order to see how they interacted with certain products and felt about different textures and scents. After taking 2 more weeks to develop some prototypes, we then invited the consumers back for a second central site visit for feedback. I designed some prototype components using Solidworks, 3D printed them on a Prusa i3 MK3S and led four 60 minute interviews with the consumers during these stages.
After weeks of research and prototype iteration, I created CAD models for our final product. I 3D printed a few of the components myself on a Prusa i3 MK3S, but we wanted the main body of the product to be clear, so we sent that model to the 3D printing lab to be printed with a clear resin.
I improved many skills working on this project, such as...
- Interviewing
- Researching
- CAD Modeling
- 3D Printing
- Collaborating
...but I think the most important thing that I took out of this project was learning how to leverage the individual strengths of each team member in order to work efficiently and create the best end product possible.
The project culminated with our group presenting our final product to P&G at their headquarters in Cincinnati, OH. That prototype will continue development with the P&G team.
