Academic Project: Individual
After learning how to use the tools and machines, each student was assigned to spend the remainder of the semester using the shop in whatever way we wanted for a project of our choosing. Using the CAD program Siemens NX, I designed a gear and converted it into a tool path. Then, I uploaded the tool path to a CNC milling machine which cut oak wood to the exact shape of the gear that I designed. I cut two gears and bolted them onto a polished slab of steel so they would rotate in unison.
