Academic Project: Group
We approached this project by researching existing programs and services. We quickly noticed that many of the existing city services were geared primarily towards elderly loved ones rather than their caregivers.
Speaking with real caregivers gave us the insights necessary to begin developing ideas for city programs. I conducted a 60 minute interview during this stage of the project with a caregiver from New Jersey named Shahrukh (seen on right).
We discovered that a lack of educational resources was a major issue across the board for caregivers. Oftentimes, elderly loved ones rapidly lose their cognition or physically deteriorate. This swift decline leaves inexperienced caregivers to learn on the go which could lead to mistakes and added stress.
From insights that we learned conducting our exploratory research, we developed several prototypes for city services geared towards educating and supporting caregivers.
We conducted another round of interviews with new caregivers in order to get feedback on our prototypes. I led a 30 minute interview with Lydia (seen on left)
We then developed these frameworks to synthesize the feedback from our user look interviews. While there were many aspects to our city service prototypes that the caregivers loved, they also had constructive criticisms that led to new ideas to iterate on the designs.
